BIODEGRADABLE GRANULATE FOR THE SEPARATION OF LAYERS OF CONCRETE PRODUCTS
PAVELITH® INTERLAY
BIODEGRADABLE GRANULATE
Our biodegradable granulate from the PAVELITH® series, is an ecologically valuable alternative to classic layer protection.
We currently offer one type of spacing granulate.
The product is biodegradable.
Fleece, nets or foil are often used to protect the blocks and surfaces in concrete block production. These are placed between the individual block layers to avoid scratches and damage. The materials used must be disposed of along with household waste (e.g. the yellow bin in Germany).
The use of PAVELITH® InterLay as layer protection significantly reduces the amount of waste. You no longer need to use fleece, packaging foils or nets. Only a few grams of granulate is required per square meter to protect the surfaces from scratches. Good air circulation between the layers also reduces the efflorescence tendency on the blocks.

What you need to know | Instructions for the use of our biodegradable granulate
Our biodegradable spacer granulate is biodegradable and can be completely decomposed by decay. The amount of waste is significantly reduced. The granulate is harmless to health and the environment.
Where can the granulate be disposed of?
The used granulate can be swept up and disposed of with household waste or in a compost. Due to the long decomposition time, disposal with organic waste is not possible.
How long is the decay process?
In humid conditions the granulate decomposes over a period of between two and five years.
Are the products safe for animals and humans?
Yes. If an animal or human swallows some pices of the granulate, it is excreted in undigested form. There is no health risk from the granulate.
What will happen to the product if it gets between the joints or in the pavement bedding?
As a result of water absorption (e.g. rain), the granulate starts to decay and then decompose into toxicologically harmless substances. Gradually, the granulate is decomposed and completely dissolved. The same applies if the granulate get into beds or water bodies in the garden
Application of PAVELITH® InterLay biodegradable granulate
PAVELITH® InterLay should be applied right before packaging (horizontal laying) between the block or pallet layers.
The water absorption needed for decay is substantially delayed; it nonetheless provides limited durability in terms of time between the block layers.
In dry conditions, this period is at least 12 months.
The following information applies to users when handling the products:
- Individual blocks or slabs should always be lifted and not pulled off the pallet.
- To avoid drifting or undesired distribution, the granulate should always be swept up and disposed of promptly.
- PAVELITH® InterLay biodegradable granulate can be disposed of with household waste or compost. When water is absorbed, decay and decomposition begins.
